Steeped in History – Corinthia Hotel Bucharest & Brussels
Tricon has been appointed to complete the kitchen & laundry design for two of the newest Corinthia hotels opening in Bucharest & Brussels. The luxury 5-star hotels were founded by the Pisani family of Malta in 1962 and since then have grown into one of the most recognised high-end hotels. Tricon worked alongside project managers QP and Interior Designers GA Designs on both projects, which are expected to open in 2021. Tricon took both projects from concept design to tender documentation as well as designing their waste strategy.
Situated in the heart of Bucharest the Corinthia Grand Hotel du Boulevard Bucharest is one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings in the Romanian capital. Originally built in 1867, the hotel, which once played host to many influential members of European society and will now be restored to its historic splendour. Tricon designed the BOH areas, mindful of the listed restrictions, for the 35-suite hotel. When open, the hotel will offer a 60-seat à la carte restaurant with a support kitchen and a 50-seat lounge café on the ground floor, both of which are supported by stores on the B level. The mezzanine offers a sophisticated, yet fun brasserie that turns into a lifestyle late-night venue post-dinner and there is also a 120-person Ballroom for events. The project team also included local architects Architectural Services.
In Brussels, the new Corinthia hotel will restore the Grand Hotel Astoria, which has been vacant for the past decade, to its former glory. Built in 1909 at the behest of King Leopold II, this iconic building was formerly a grand meeting place for kings, dignitaries and world personalities. This fabulous building offers two main fine-dining restaurants supported by a ground floor main commissary kitchen which also supports the banqueting hall on the same level alongside a decant and prep area and waste stores. The mezzanine floor hosts a pastry area for guests to enjoy sweet treats and dining for staff, too. Tricon worked alongside MA2 Architecture and Arcadis, who acted as MEP engineers for this project.
When open, the new Corinthia hotels are expected to be truly beautiful additions to both bustling Capital cities.
